| On Sunday 10th January Chiltern Oils were featured on Countryfile. They are a local company, based in Wilstone, north of Tring. Matt Baker explains how rapeseed grown by Simon Mead and his family gets turned into rapeseed oil. They also explain that pigeons are able to eat all the crop, especially during a harsh winter, as the plants are allowed to grow for 11 months before being harvested. Once harvested, the rapeseed seeds are pressed to create the oil and 1 field can make 32,000 bottles of oil! The seeds are then dried pressed and bottled on the farm producing 100% pure rapeseed oil. Simon has further expanded his range to include his 'oil infused range', salad dressings, BBQ sauces and mayonnaise. As shown on Countryfile, have a farm shop but there is no need to travel all that distance as Chiltern Oils are stocked locally in the village shop! Come in and see the range and maybe buy something new to try! If you want to watch the program it is available on BBC iPlayer, and there is more information about Chiltern Oils on their website - http://www.chilterncoldpressedrapeseedoil.co.uk/#countryfile |
